Are the paid features worth it?

Some of it buys you genuine convenience. Most of it buys you the feeling of doing something.

Every app has a paid tier and every paid tier promises more matches. Some of it is honest utility. Some of it is a slot machine with a monthly invoice. It's worth knowing which is which before the subscription auto-renews for the fourth time.

Generally worth it

Usually not

The honest comparison: a month's subscription costs about the same as two coffees with someone. Better photos and a better first message will do more for your results than either.

The order of operations

Before paying for visibility, fix what people see when they get there. In order: photos, first, and by a distance. Then the profile text. Then your opening messages. Then how quickly you suggest meeting. Paying to be seen more while all four are weak just increases the audience for the same performance.

If you do pay

Buy one month, not twelve, and set a calendar reminder to cancel. These subscriptions are designed to be easy to start and forgettable to stop, and a year of a paused profile quietly renewing is an extremely common story.

The bit worth remembering

The business is built on you staying subscribed, which is not quite the same as you meeting someone. That doesn't make the products useless — it just means the useful features are the ones that save you time, and the rest are selling the feeling of progress.
